✦ Unconventional Fall Color Palettes
September is always a time of transition. Growing up in Washington state, the shift was obvious with changing leaves and cooler temperatures. In Southern California, we still get a fall, but it’s a more subtle version of the one I knew as a kid. I make up for that by infusing fall vibes wherever I can. When it comes to decor, outfits, food - really anything for the season - I like to start by defining the vibes.
Traditional fall colors lean heavy on orange and pumpkin-y tones. While I love that, I think you can elevate the look so it doesn’t feel quite so on the nose. Here’s some color schemes I wanna play with this fall -
This screams September to me. The vibe is rustic yet refined: baskets of green apples, oversized knits, checked blankets, and wild floral arrangements. A cooler toned take on fall. Works well for layered outfits, evoking woodsy walks and harvest tables.
A continuation of the butter yellow trend from this summer. Deep chestnuts, mulberry, and warm yellow pull straight from squash, corn, and fall fields. Feels grounded, a little nostalgic, and easy to wear or live with. Goes well with mulled wine as it gets colder.
Fun twist on fall. Playful and almost 90s vibes, mixing persimmon orange with soft lavenders, blues, and candy-colored corn. Feels quirky but still seasonal.
✦ Mile High Apple Pie
In honor of green apple season, I’m sharing Martha Stewart’s Mile-High Apple Pie. My mom makes this every fall and is known for her comically tall apple pies. Recommend enjoying warm with ice cream.
